Dear Workshop participant,

This should be our final message prior to the start of the 57th annual CSPA journalism workshop at Cal Poly in beautiful San Luis Obispo on Sunday, July 13.

Our workshop is the finest high school journalism seminar in the nation. The reason? All instructors volunteer their time. They volunteer because they have a sincere desire to help the next generation of journalists. Most of our faculty attended this same journalism workshop when they were in high school and they know the value of our curriculum. Not only do they volunteer their time, but most pay their own expenses.

Our dorm is Lassen Hall. Check-in for the workshop will be between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on July 13 in Room 1. Classes will begin at 4 p.m. Students traveling by bus or train who provided advance notification will be picked up at the station.

We assign two or three students to a room, females on the top floor and males on the first floor. Many instructors also stay on campus. If you have a softball glove or a musical instrument, bring it. We will have a talent show in the second week. We have computers in our classroom for students to produce their work.

We wish to remind all students that this is a fully programmed workshop. All classes and recreational activities are mandatory. For a schedule of classes, and other information about CSPA, please click here.

We have a lot to teach in a short time, and we don't have time to deal with disciplinary problems. Students who don't follow the rules will be sent home. Expect full days of journalism, interviewing, writing, editing, discussing, reviewing and recreational activities.

We predict that the 13 days of the workshop will be the most thrilling, exciting, intense, fast-moving, and fulfilling days of your summer. You will meet other prospective journalists who will become your lifelong friends.

And when you receive your certificate of completion, you will realize that you have experienced a terrific time and achieved a considerable goal.

Graduation ceremonies will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25. Parents and other family members are invited. The workshop concludes at 11:30 a.m.
