Schedule finalized for 57th CSPA workshop
Increased emphasis on blogging, online journalism highlights 2008 run of nationally recognized summer program
Beginning on Day 1 of the 57th renewal of the California Scholastic Press Association journalism workshop, students will learn about the latest developments in online journalism. Assisted by working professionals experienced in online reporting and blogging, students will create and maintain a blog of their experiences during the two-week workshop.
This year's program will run from Sunday, July 13, through Friday, July 25.
The session brings together the state's most-promising high school journalists and a host of award-winning professionals in a broad spectrum of communications disciplines. As always, the two-week-long workshop will be held on the campus of California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.
Students live and work on the campus, filling their days with practical experience in print journalism, radio and television broadcast, photography, graphical information and illustration, and publishing on the Web.
Continued expansion of CSPA's online presence is another way in which the volunteer faculty and board seeks to freshen the workshop curriculum to stay abreast of changes in the communications landscape.

Awards highlight completion of 2007 workshop
The CSPA Workshop took huge strides forward in its 56th year, but it remained grounded in its dedication to student journalism. So all the excitement for the ventures into the multimedia world still was secondary to the excitement created by our 24 students.
After 13 days and constant assignments on deadline, it was time to honor some of the top CSPA performers.
Laura Nelson, who traveled halfway across the country to attend the workshop, led all writers. She earned 3,157 of a possible 3,350 points, for an incredible 94 percent.
The remainder of the CSPA's top five point-scorers: Wes Duplantier (3,080 points), Willy Korchek (3,056), Josh Rubin (3,048), Lizzie Jaeger (3,044).
Two of the top five also were selected by instructors and counselors as
winners of the Ralph and Millie Alexander awards, which go to the top overall
students at the workshop (based on several criteria):
Millie Alexander Award: Laura Nelson
Ralph Alexander Award: Willy Korchek
